Something is Coming in the First Official Trailer for Disney’s Moana

With the animation little over 2 months away, we’re just now getting the first full trailer for Moana, a trailer that paints a rather compelling picture.

“Princess Moana is a daughter of the chief of her tribe. Coming from a long line of navigators she sets off for a fabled island with her hero, the demi God Maui. Along the voyage they battle the treacherous ocean and all which it hides, all the while learning what the power love between friends can accomplish.”

Moana was directed by Ron Clements and John Musker, a duo that has worked in the past on such classic Disney animations like The Little Mermaid, Aladdin or The Princess and the Frog. That right there was more than enough to get me excited for this new feature from Walt Disney Animation Studios. I guess it helps that between Tangled, Wreck-it Ralph, Frozen, Big Hero 6 and Zootopia, this studio has an almost perfect track record. Those weren’t just critical darlings but also some of the most popular animations of all time at the box office.

Since this is Clements and Musker’s first almost fully computer animated feature, the two were helped by co-directors Don Hall and Chris Williams, which previously helmed Big Hero 6. The screenplay on the other hand has been through even more hands, Taika Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows), Pamela Ribon, Jared Bush (Zootopia) and directors Ron Clements and John Musker.

Lending their voices to characters in Moana are Dwayne Johnson, Alan Tudyk, Jemaine Clement, Nicole Scherzinger, Temuera Morrison and Auli’i Cravalho as the titular hero. Moana opens on November 23rd.
